What it recovers
A missed call is not a neutral event. In a September 2025 CallRail survey of 1,000 US consumers, 78 percent said they had abandoned a business after an unanswered call, and 82 percent said they would call a competitor instead. A caller who reaches silence does not usually wait for a callback; they move to the next name.

A text sent the moment the call goes unanswered keeps that person in the conversation instead of losing them to the next search result. It does not create a lead that was not there. It protects a lead you already paid to generate, whether that call came from a search, an ad or a referral.
How it works on the plan
The core setup is part of the $500 a month plan. Once your business number is registered for texting, a missed call triggers an automatic text back from that same number. The reply lands in one inbox alongside every other channel, so whoever is watching it can pick up the thread the same way they would a text that came in directly.
Honest limits
Two limits are worth stating plainly. First, business texting runs through a carrier registration and verification process before it can send at any real volume; it is not instant, and a number that has not been through it should not be relied on yet. Second, an ongoing texting program still has to follow the same consent rules as any other business messaging.
The FCC's own consumer guidance is direct about both sides of that: a business generally needs the consumer's prior consent before sending marketing text messages, and a consumer can opt out of any business text at any time, through any reasonable method, even after previously agreeing to receive them. A reply triggered by the customer's own missed call sits closer to a direct reply than an unsolicited marketing text, but any follow-up campaign built on top of it still needs to honor an opt-out the moment one arrives.

What it does not do
- It does not answer a real question. A person still has to pick up the thread once the text opens it.
- It does not replace estimate follow-up, which is the separate part of the system that keeps chasing a quote that has gone quiet.
- It does not work until the number is registered and the automation is actually turned on.
- It does not generate calls. If the phone rarely rings, this recovers nothing, because there is nothing to recover yet.
